Opposites

We all, in one way or another, experience opposites in our lives: happy and sad, care free and stressed, hot and cold, and the list could go on. We know that our Heavenly Father loves us and wants us to be happy, and so why does he allow us to feel sadness? The Book of Mormon gives us an answer to this question in 2 Nephi 2:11.

"For it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things. If not so... righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad."

This scripture helps us to see that without sadness, we wouldn't know happiness. If we were never stressed, we wouldn't know what it was like to be care free. And if we didn't know what was wrong, how would we know what was right? We can see that there is a purpose to all of the opposites that we face in life. We will all go through valleys or low times in our lives but they help us to appreciate the mountains or the great times of our lives. So remember that all of the tough times you face will help you to appreciate the good in life. I know that our Heavenly Father is watching over us and he desires for us to be happy. He knows us each individually and he loves us!
